For over 1000 years, Salignac Castle has watched over the Périgord Noir, 15 km from Sarlat.
A forgotten medieval fortress, a co-lordship with a rich history, it is reborn today before your eyes, stone by stone, as in the 15th century.
Here, there's no staging, no set dressing to make it look pretty. A living castle, undergoing restoration, which is regaining its historical truth thanks to a mad family project launched in 2006. You're stepping behind the scenes of a unique renaissance in France.
Identically reconstructed rooms, immersive events with the Opusculaires — the only reenactors in France who actually live in a castle for several days on end — and a restoration site open to the curious gaze.
An unusual experience for family, friends, and those tired of the same old castles, same old tours, same old audio guides. Salignac is different – and those who visit say so themselves.
Every entry directly finances the continuation of this independent preservation project. By coming here, you are not just visiting – you are participating in the rebirth of a millenary monument.
